The Village of Port Credit is also referred to as Mississauga's "Village on the Lake" and as is considered to be the heart of Port Credit. Port Credit is bounded by the railway tracks to the north, Seneca Ave to the east and Shawnmarr Rd to the west. Port Credit is surrounded by beautiful areas including Lorne Park to the west and east and west Mineola to the north.
Port Credit was once a working fishing port and regional trading area and 1884 a lighthouse was built to help the sailors on the lake. Unfortunately the lightouse was destroyed by fire in 1936 however it still stands today as a landmark and symbol for the area. Port Credit maintained it's independance until 1974 when it was incorporated into Mississauga.
